In the past 100 years we have given up a vast amount of public land for the sole use of automobiles traveling at dangerous speeds to the detriment of our health, safety, and enjoyment of civic life. The byproduct of this era is thousands of acres of hot asphalt in our city that absorb heat and exasperate rising temperatures. Fortunately, planners and civic leaders are now realizing that auto-centric design does not necessarily correlate to enhanced quality of life.

Join Michael Huston, urban designer and architect for Civic Plan Studio on Central Avenue and writer for his blog The Empirical City, on Zoom at 6pm on September 8th for a discussion about how to rebalance transportation priorities and regain the public realm for human enjoyment.
