If you’re searching for a way to give back, the Catalyst’s Impact Connector is here to help. Each week, we feature five organizations in the Tampa Bay area that need your input, whether that’s time, talent, items, funding or simply awareness. We’re certain you’ll find something here that matches your interests and will positively impact the community.

Touch Tank Volunteer

Tampa Bay Watch is looking for passionate volunteers to help out with their touch tank in the Discovery Center. This is an important opportunity to help with watching over the touch tank to keep everyone safe, guests and animals alike, and to educate visitors. It may also involve engaging in educational activities just outside of the Discovery Center. It is encouraged that volunteers talk with visitors about the creatures in the touch tank and in our ecosystem, along with the incredible work done by Tampa Bay Watch.

There is no special experience or knowledge required, as Tampa Bay Watch will provide a training guide, along with offering an opportunity to shadow an experienced person before you begin. This volunteering opportunity has flexible scheduling within the Discovery Center’s hours, so you may take advantage whenever works best for you. Volunteering to aid with the touch tank is perfect for anyone who is passionate about wildlife and the ocean, and wants to spread that passion with others.

John’s Pass Park Cleanup

Join Keep Pinellas Beautiful, Kulani Kinis and Trash Turtles on Friday, May 23 to help clean up John’s Pass Park. The event will take place at 8:30 a.m. and is free and open to everyone. This clean up is part of Keep Pinellas Beautiful’s mission to live up to its name and keep our city clean and beautiful. If you care about the environment and beautifying our space, then this is the perfect opportunity for you.

The meet up will be at John’s Pass Park in Madeira Beach. Although the start time is 8:30 a.m., it is highly recommended that you arrive a few minutes early to check in and prepare. Closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and appropriate clothing are highly encouraged. All other cleanup supplies will be provided by the organizers to all volunteers, but it is especially important that you stay hydrated, so make sure to bring a reusable water bottle that can be refilled throughout the day.

Ready to be part of something magical? Become a Girls Rock volunteer and join the revolution by helping girls and gender-expansive kids step into their power. Whether you are seasoned crew or brand new to Girls Rock, connect with our chosen family of volunteers at our annual “Brewhaha” event, which is part social, part volunteer training, and ends with a rowdy arm-wrestling tournament for prizes and glory.

This event takes place Saturday, May 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Outcast Brewing. If you are interested in volunteering with Girls Rock, this informational session is mandatory for first-time volunteers.

The Girls Rock Summer Camp runs from July 14 to 18 and ends with an epic concert at Jannus Live Saturday, July 19. We need musicians, and also therapists, nurses, photographers, event planners, creative builders, street team crew, crafty ladies, ladies who aren’t ladies, and so much more. Crescent Lake Park Cleanup

Join Stewards of Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) and Keep Pinellas Beautiful (KPB) for a rewarding and enriching morning of community service towards improvement at Crescent Lake. Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks at this site including lake debris removal, invasive vegetation removal, native plant installation and water sample collection. We look forward to working with you to restore this local habitat!

This event takes place Saturday, May 31 at 8:30 a.m. at Crescent Lake Park. Volunteers will meet at the storage unit in the TASCO Building Parking lot. It is strongly recommended that volunteers wear closed toes shoes and clothes that they do not mind getting dirty. Additionally, given the ruthless nature of the Florida sun, volunteers should bring a hat, sunglasses and a refillable water bottle with them. All other supplies necessary for the cleanup will be provided, along with sunscreen, bug spray and hand sanitizer. There will be a place to refill water bottles.
