Five ways to get involved and give back in St. Pete
If you’re searching for a way to give back to your community, the Catalyst’s Impact Connector is here to help. Each week, we feature five organizations in the Tampa Bay area that need your input, whether that’s time, talent, items, funding or simply awareness. We’re certain you’ll find something here that matches your interests and will positively impact the community.
Fight summer hunger
Summer is here, and that means kids who used to rely on meals at school may be going hungry. Feeding Tampa Bay is driving donations to get healthy food into the hands of families throughout the area. Thanks to a matching donor, all donations through June 29 go twice as far. Donate online here.
Adopters needed
Rags to Riches is a 501(c)(3) animal rescue in the Tampa Bay area, looking for loving homes for the dogs and cats in their care. “Little Foot,” pictured here, healed up nicely after having her front leg amputated and is now ready to find her forever home. Learn more about Little Foot here.
Rags to Riches also needs donations of pet food, toys and care supplies. Learn more about the rescue here and shop the rescue’s Chewy wishlist here.
Volunteer at Lealman STEAM Day
The second annual Lealman STEAM Day is coming up July 10 and volunteers are needed to make this fun, educational day a success. The event will be held at the Lealman Exchange, 5175 45th St. N. in St. Petersburg.
Volunteers are needed for setup beginning at 8:15 a.m., as station chaperones to assist in moving kids from station to station, to help with lunch and assist with breaking down the event from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers can sign up online here or email connect@lealmanexchange.org to register. Free pizza lunch will be provided.
Classroom grandparents needed
Seniors in Service of Tampa Bay is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing solutions to community challenges by engaging volunteers aged 55 and older. Since its inception in 1984, the nonprofit has provided more than five million hours of community assistance, much of it coming from its sizable Classroom Grandparent program.
The Classroom Grandparent program puts seniors to work in elementary schools throughout Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties, where they mentor students and help teachers manage the day-to-day work of running their classrooms. Classroom Grandparents also receive a small stipend for their work. Contact Seniors in Service at (813) 932-5228 to learn more about the program and sign up.
Bingo for a cause
Show your Pride and join the Humane Society of Pinellas for Drag Queen Bingo Wednesday, June 26 at Tiki Tim’s Pub, 923 72nd St. N. in St. Petersburg.
Bingo donations will benefit the Humane Society of Pinellas (HSP), a no-kill shelter located in Clearwater. HSP will have a 50/50 raffle and prizes for all Bingo winners, along with festive freebies. Pride attire is encouraged and reservations in advance are required. Call (727) 266-7275 to reserve your spot.
Attendees also have a chance at winning a pair of tickets to RuPaul’s Drag Race Allstars Sept. 29 at Ruth Eckerd Hall.
By engaging in these five impactful ways to give back, we can empower our communities and contribute to a more compassionate society. If your organization is seeking volunteers, donations or awareness, click here to submit your opportunity. We’ll get the word out to our readers.
