Five ways you can give back this week
As the sun blankets St. Pete with its relentless heat, find solace by helping out a local nonprofit (in the cool confines of air-conditioned spaces, of course). The Catalyst’s Impact Connector is your one-stop-shop for meaningful ways to rise above the sweltering temperatures and channel your energy into something truly impactful: Giving back to the community.
Wellness Treatments for a Good Cause
Support the St. Pete Free Clinic and enjoy a relaxing day (win-win!) at the Spa Invitational on Aug. 5th. A spoof on a traditional golf tournament, this “championship course” is the Oceana Spa at the Don Cesar, with “18 holes” of pampering services including facials, massages, make-up applications, nail polishes and much more.
Empower Young Rockstars and Change Lives
Join Girls Rock Camp St. Pete for an amazing week of fearless expression, artistic experimentation and collaboration. Volunteers are needed as instrument instructors, nurses, and mental health professionals. Musical experience is not necessary for most roles. Learn more at girlsrockstpete.org/volunteer. Help Make a New Exhibit a Permanent Fixture
A new exhibit focuses exclusively on the many women whose tireless efforts were key in St. Pete’s development. Meddling: The Women Who Built St. Pete, a new exhibition at the St. Petersburg Museum of History, is open-ended, but not permanent yet. Fascinating and uplifting.
Educate Visitors and Keep Holocaust History Alive
Give back by becoming a docent at The Florida Holocaust Museum. Docents work with students of different age groups (5th grade and up) and help translate the lessons of the Holocaust into today and carry their message to the next generations. You will also have a chance to meet artists and guest speakers at programs designed just for docents.
Aid the Elderly in Our Community
You can help out a senior this summer by volunteering with Neighborly Senior Care Network. Neighborly urgently needs volunteer drivers to transport elderly clients to and from medical appointments and pharmacies. Volunteers usually assist two to four hours per week between 8:45 am and 4:00 pm. Check out volunteer and vehicle requirements here.
