Introduction
Righting the ship at an organization embroiled in controversy is no easy task. But Jennifer Brackney's pragmatism and steadiness tells us she's up to the job. Brackney comes to CareerSource Pinellas with 26 years of experience in workforce development, and a strong love for the city of St. Petersburg. We have no doubt that those two factors will combine to make something great: Workforce development leveled up.

What gets you out of bed every day?
The thought of making a difference in someone’s life, I really enjoy the workforce development part of that.
Why St. Pete?
My husband and I fell in love with St. Petersburg about 10 years ago. We would vacation here and stay at the Vinoy. Way before the downtown was developed. It was just such a quaint, eclectic place and we loved it. So we decided it was a good time to move out of Illinois. It was a January where it was 15 below zero almost for the whole month, and we decided to take the plunge and move here.
What is one habit that you keep?
I stay organized. I organize and stay on a calendar.
Who are some people that influence you?
Probably the first person that comes to mind is my mom. The people who are around me, the people who are committed to workforce development in general, and the people that I work with at Career Source Pinellas. The leadership in St. Petersburg are people who really influence me.
What is one piece of insight - a book, methodology, practice - that you would share with our readers?
This maybe goes back a day, but The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People really comes to my mind. Taking those seven habits and implementing them into your day-to-day and week-to-week work life.
What is one thing you wish you knew about your work 3 years ago?
That’s a tough one since we’ve had all of the change here. That I would be in St. Petersburg and doing what I’m doing. Who would have thought that things would have changed and I’d be where I am right now.
What’s next?
To bring Career Source to the next level. To continue to work with our board and all of our staff and employees at Career Source Pinellas to take it up a notch.
