Dr. Cyd Campbell to Be Honored in her hometown during the 2nd Annual Legacy-56 Sankofa Series
October 18 – 19, 2019, in St. Petersburg, FL.
On day-one of the Series, Dr. Campbell, a developmental-behavioral pediatrician will join a panel of multi-disciplinary experts for the first-ever Sankofa Symposium ‘Reclaiming the Genius in All Children’, followed by day-two, which presents an evening honoring the Legacy of Cyd Campbell
in Legacy-56’s celebratory event, ‘The Journey Home.’

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (September 30, 2019) – Dr. Cyd Campbell, a St. Petersburg native and board-certified pediatrician specializing in behavioral and developmental pediatrics, currently practicing in Springfield, Maryland will be honored by her hometown during the 2nd Annual Sankofa Series organized by Legacy-56, Inc. Legacy-56, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) group of thought-leaders who mission is to remember history, reclaim heritage, and restore hope in African-American communities through the intergenerational transfer of transformative ideas and practices that enhance quality of life.

Legacy-56 will recognize Dr. Campbell for over 30 years of medical practice and leadership experience and her success in addressing quality improvements for special needs populations and the behavioral health system of care. Campbell’s broad experience in medical practice and innovative approaches for fostering collaboration across systems has been impactful in serving multi-cultural communities across the nation. The Series will celebrate the life of Cyd Campbell as a hometown native and provide new perspectives on developmental-behavioral pediatrics by identifying solutions for children that go beyond the diagnosis. “Children believe they are great until a community forces them to believe otherwise, states Dr. Katonah Jenkins-Hall, President of Legacy-56. “All children are uniquely gifted – finding that gift releases a key ingredient for the success of the community.” Campbell has devoted her life’s work to ensuring that equitable resources are provided for all children and that each child has an opportunity to excel to greatness.

The Sankofa Series is a two event which opens on Friday, October 18 at 6:00 p.m. in James Center located on the campus of Eckerd College. The Symposium will feature a facilitated panel discussion with multi-disciplinary experts from across the community. On Saturday, October 19 at 7:15 p.m., Legacy-56 will honor the legacy of Dr. Cyd Campbell in its special honorary gathering entitled “The Journey Home.” The evening reflects the historical and cultural perspective of Campbell’s journey from her hometown into the world of medicine. The evening culminates with a salute to local healthcare professionals, special dedications and an exciting celebration. Both events are free and open to the community.
