Meet Ready for Life.
Ready for Life is a nonprofit serving youth that are aging out of foster care. It was born out of a need discerned by the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay in 2007, when it decided to prioritize disadvantaged youth. Ready for Life seeks to address the transition that teens in foster care face on their 18th birthday. Aging out of the system leaves these teens in the middle of trying to graduate high school or obtain their GED, struggling to find housing and employment to live independently.
Ready for Life began as an organization to provide support, resources and guidance for teens aging out of foster care, and remove barriers to those services. Now, Ready for Life is a full-service center that offers mentoring, education, services for parents, a food pantry and personal care resources like showers and washers. The Ready for Life center also houses a full-time therapist, a medical services navigation specialist and a community legal services center.
