Old Northeast home wins HGTV award

A Craftsman-style home in St. Petersburg’s Old Northeast neighborhood was one of several winners in HGTV’s Ultimate House Hunt 2020.
The listing, represented by Sharon Kantner and Brian Waechter of Smith & Associates Real Estate, won the “Homes with a History” category in the annual online promotion.
There were 89 finalists in eight categories and more than 1.5 million votes were cast to determine the winners.
“From foundation to finish, this 1910 Craftsman home is a historic gem and a quintessential example of doing a historic restoration the right way,” Kantner said in a news release.

The property sits on a corner lot and has three porches, four gas fireplaces, heated and cooled swimming pool, legal detached income-producing one-bedroom Carriage House with full kitchen and bath, a two-car garage and a privately fenced motor court with electronic gate. It also includes period moldings, finishes, and heart pine wood floors throughout, according to Smith & Associates.

Mike Connelly,
It’s amazing to see the Old NE transform and see homes restored to their prior glory days. I’d be remiss if I didn’t clarify some points of inaccuracies in your comment though. I am the son of the woman who painstakingly designed and restored this property from the shambles that once stood. She and her crew spent four years restoring the entire property with one year spent on the carriage house (where I spent many visits) and three years on the main house. My mother, Maureen Stafford, originally conceived, designed, and labored on most of the features of this home. I normally would never browse the comments on a post like this, let alone make a comment myself, but I feel compelled to provide credit where credit is adequately due. This property consumed a formidable amount of my mother’s energy and positioned her as a prominent figure in the renovation efforts of the Old Northeast. I’ve worked side by side with her through many projects through my youth and into my adulthood. I’ve seen firsthand the long hours, bloodied hands, and stressed and exhausted stares following her hard days. It’s a wonderful moment to see her dream become featured in this forum and I am abundantly proud to see her get the credit she deserves.
