Baked goods: Gluten-free Craft Kafe opens downtown location
The beloved West St. Pete staple Craft Kafe has finally opened its highly-anticipated second location. Known for its commitment to gluten-free baking, the original Craft Kafe (6653 Central Ave.) opened its doors (and started “slaying gluten on the daily” with artisan baked goods) in 2015.
Craft Kafe’s second location (downtown, at 200 Central) was announced through an Instagram post Wednesday morning. The new location will be filling a niche for gluten-free East St. Pete and downtown residents.
Owner Ted Skiadiotis grinds his own non-wheat flour. “The look on peoples’ faces when we explain we are dedicated gluten-free is priceless,” he says on the Craft Kafe website. “People with a gluten sensitivity want to cry, and people who don’t can’t believe what they are tasting.”
Skiadiotis’ commitment to gluten-free baking is not merely a nod to a popular trend; he is himself gluten-sensitive, and dreamt of opening a gluten-free bakery for 18 years before it became a reality. After finally giving up a career on Wall Street, he moved to Florida and opened Crafe Kafe’s first location.
You can visit Craft Kafe’s new location this week between 7 a.m.-7 p.m. (ish). They’ll be closed Sunday. While they soft launch, they’ll be playing their schedule by ear.
