Pier concert series begins Saturday with the Revivalists
Saturday brings the opening show in the Rise Up St. Pete Concert Series, at Spa Beach on The Pier. There are 11 general admission concerts on the schedule, with one – and sometimes two – per weekend. More have been promised down the road.
Musical genres include reggae, hip hop, rock ‘n’ roll, pop and blurred lines between them all.
The series is produced by the same company that brings the Reggae Rise Up festival to Vinoy Park each year, along with Pier Events, LLC. Ticket prices average around $35 per concert, with some a little lower and some a little higher.
The debut performance, Saturday (Nov. 4) at 6 p.m. (gates open at 5) features the Revivalists, a powerhouse New Orleans rock ‘n’ roll outfit that Rolling Stone named one of its “10 Bands You Need to Know” in 2015.
It’s an eight-member band, including trumpet, saxophone and pedal steel along with the usual rock stuff; not only that, they’re genuinely nice guys who have a philanthropic umbrella fund, Rev Causes, to support organizations dedicated to reviving and investing in “our communities, our health, and our environment.”
Through ticket sales, fan donations and other fundraising efforts, the Revivalists put money into such issues as anti-gun violence, climate change, human rights, mental health, natural disaster relief, cancer, education and the arts.
Tickets for the Revivalists show are available here.

Please make it obvious that chairs and blankets are not allowed. I bought tickets before I realized that we would have to stand the whole time. My husband has had back surgery and long periods of standing aggravate his condition. We love the Revivalists and would like to see the whole concert but may have to leave early because of the no sitting down policy.
