Places This Week: A 1928 Mark Dixon Dodd home for sale

A weekly roundup of notable local real estate news.
A three-bedroom, three-bath residence designed by architect Mark Dixon Dodd, with an address at 2521 Driftwood Road SE, St. Petersburg, has listed for $1.8 million. The one-story home, built in 1928, features 1,711 square feet of living space on a 0.21 acre of land.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1888, Mark Dixon Dodd was a graduate of the St. Louis School of Fine Art. He moved from New York City to St. Petersburg in 1925 and soon after became a prominent member of the city’s art community. He opened the Mark Dixon Dodd School of Art in 1930 and in 1936 was hired by real estate investors to design the Driftwood subdivision in the Big Bayou area.
Beginning in 1937, he built 15 homes on Coffee Pot Bayou and later became head of the art department at St. Petersburg Junior College.
The interior of the home features high-vaulted ceilings, wide-plank oak flooring, a gourmet kitchen with a natural gas stove and high-end appliances and three spacious bedrooms, each with their own ensuite bath. Outdoors is a newly-installed saltwater pool and spa with a natural gas heater and smart-enabled controls, a gas firepit and a covered pool-side patio. No Vacancy for sale in the EDGE District
A building occupied by No Vacancy, a bar and restaurant located at 937 Central Ave., in downtown St. Petersburg’s EDGE District, has listed for sale with an asking price of $1.795 million.
The property and business are owned by Stephen Schrutt, Founder and CEO of the Hunger + Thirst Group, which also operates several other food and beverage establishments, including Park & Rec and Dirty Laundry. No Vacancy opened at this location in early 2019.
The 1,392 square foot one-story structure was built in 1940. Also included is a 1,400 square-foot outdoor patio and a second full-service bar. The 0.06-acre plot of land provides 50 feet of frontage along Central Avenue and has DC-1 zoning. The property will be vacant at the time of the sale.

Rio Vista Village Apartments sell
The sale of Rio Vista Village, a 248-unit apartment complex situated on a 14.69-acre parcel of land at 200 78th Avenue N., St. Petersburg, closed March 27 for $5.035 million.
Residences are spread out across 18 two-story buildings comprising a total of 206,524 heated square feet. Built in 1974 and renovated in 2008, the complex features 128 one-bedroom/one-bath, 100 two-bedroom/one bath and 20 three-bedroom/one-bath units that range in size from 660 to 960 square feet. Also onsite is a 3,028 heated square-foot clubhouse with a coffee bar and seating area that was built in 1975.
Community amenities include a pool with a brick-paved deck and whirlpool spa, a 24-hour fitness center, a business center, reserved covered parking for an additional monthly fee and laundry facilities.
The seller and original developer, Lakebrook Park Ltd., acquired the parcel for an unknown amount in 1971. The purchaser is Chadwick Management, LLC based in St. Petersburg. Patrician Point waterfront home sells for $4.25 million
A 3,578 heated-square-foot home at 3942 14th Street NE, in the Patrician Point neighborhood of St. Petersburg, sold March 27 for $4.25 million. The home, constructed by Deslandes Design Build in 2014, was listed last November for $4.49 million.
The two-story concrete waterfront home offers four bedrooms, three full baths and one half-bath. The 1,850 square-foot first level features an open floorplan with 10-foot ceilings, an expansive living room, a dining room, office and a guest bedroom. A chef’s kitchen is equipped with a 48-inch Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, a 36-inch dual-fuel Wolf range and a Thermador dishwasher. Upstairs is 1,728 square feet of living space including the primary suite and two guest bedrooms. Attached is an oversized 688 square-foot garage and a rear storage area.

A six-unit multi-family property at 548 3rd Street N., in the Old Northeast neighborhood of St. Petersburg, has listed for $1.275 million. The four one-bedroom and two studio apartments are situated across four buildings on a 0.22-acre lot.
