Places This Week: A Babe Ruth rental hits the market

A weekly roundup of notable local real estate news.
A restored craftsman bungalow, located at 346 16th Avenue NE in the Historic Old Northeast neighborhood of St. Petersburg, has listed for sale for $1.865 million.
Per a July 25, 1969 story in the St. Petersburg Times, baseball legend Babe Ruth, along with his wife Clair and his stepdaughter Dorothy, rented the home for many spring training seasons. When Harry Woods, a local oil dealer and sportsman, purchased the home he found an old, brown quart whisky bottle which he attributed as a relic from the parties Ruth hosted for fellow Yankees, friends and family.
Local preservationist Maureen Stafford purchased the home in 2021 for $539,000 and spent the last three-and-a-half years renovating and restoring the property. The 1,682 square feet across two stories provides three bedrooms, each with their own ensuite bath, a living room with a fireplace and vaulted ceilings, a large kitchen and dining room and a loggia with a Rumford fireplace.
Outdoors is a newly restored pool surrounded by tropical gardens. The 0.15-acre parcel is five blocks from the Tampa Bay waterfront and within walking or biking distance to downtown St. Petersburg.

Former schoolhouse turned apartment complex lists
Euclid Schoolhouse Flats, an apartment complex converted from a former schoolhouse, has listed for sale for an unknown price. Located at 1090 10th Street N., St. Petersburg, the two-story property was built in 1924 for Euclid Elementary School, which opened the following year. A year later it was purchased by developer Michael Mincberg of Sight Properties, LLC, along with former Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Matt Joyce, under the registered name MJRE, LLC. Together they turned the 13,308 gross square-foot structure into a 16-unit apartment building that opened in 2017.
Sitting on a 0.79 acre of land on a brick-paved street, the complex offers one- and two-bedroom apartments, each retaining characteristics of the old classrooms, including high ceilings and oversized windows. Units also feature refinished hardwood or vinyl plank flooring, stainless steel appliances, white shaker cabinets, granite countertops, subway tile backsplashes and washers and dryers.
MJRE LLC sold the property in 2020 and the current owner, VAJRAM LLC, purchased it in 2022 for $4.4 million. The listing is provided by Mark Savarese, Cary Brown, Eve Lowry and Daniel Pinero with Franklin Street.
