Welcome to Florida: Hurricane Andrew

Hurricane Andrew

You can't tell the story of Florida without the story of Hurricane Andrew. That's what we're doing on this episode with the help of longtime University of Miami professor, Hurricane Andrew survivor, and author of "In the Eye of Hurricane Andrew" Eugene Provenzo.

During Hurricane Andrew, I was pregnant with my son and living near Downtown, Miami,Fla. we lived in townhome made of solid concrete. The surrounding concrete had cracks in the next day. Hurricane arrived around 3:00 am with a howling and scary, loud, screeching wind. I went inside my bathroom without windows and put a comforter over my head & prayed all night for protection for myself & neighborhood. There was a lot of damage/power outages all around but most everyone survived. Thank GOD 🙏🙏

All I know is that I was glad that it turned South away from Broward County. It still was one hell of a storm

If you didn’t live through this night, you cannot explain it to someone who didn’t experience the wind, the rain, the destruction, and after it was all over the smell!!
