St. Petersburg City Council candidate Jamie Mayo is a middle class, single mom and small business operator who knows what it’s like to face financial struggles. She has a soft spot for marginalized people, loves the city she has called home for more than three decades, and is unafraid to say she doesn’t have all the answers.

“I’m not a politician. I’m not a social activist, just someone who loves my city … and felt called to do this. I’m a person who digs in, knows how to get stuff done,” Mayo, running to succeed outgoing council member Amy Foster, says in the latest episode of Political Party with Adam Smith.

Mayo ran for the District 8 council seat in 2005 and lost to Jeff Danner, who served two terms and is now running again. Others include activist Richie Floyd and optometrist Dane Kuplicki.
