St. Anthony’s Hospital, a part of the BayCare Health System, has named John Haffner, MD, FAAP, its new Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Haffner began in his new role on Sept. 16.
“Dr. Haffner brings a wealth of experience to St. Anthony’s after serving as the CMO at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, another hospital that is part of BayCare,” said St. Anthony’s Hospital President Scott Smith. “During his tenure there, Dr. Haffner successfully worked with medical and administrative staff to achieve key goals for the hospital. We are so pleased that he is bringing his knowledge and expertise to St. Anthony’s.”
Among his many other achievements at Morton Plant North Bay, he was a resource for several board committees, collaborated with the hospitalist team to achieve excellent quality outcomes and improved communication with physicians. Prior to becoming CMO at Morton Plant North Bay, Dr. Haffner also served as a pediatric intensive care physician for nearly 21 years, including 17 at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, another hospital that is part of BayCare.
Dr. Haffner will report to Dana Kellis, MD, senior vice president/chief medical officer-hospital division for BayCare. “I believe he’ll do a tremendous job working with physicians to enhance the quality of care St. Anthony’s patients receive,” Dr. Kellis said.
Dr. Haffner is filling an opening created when St. Anthony’s Chief Medical Officer James McClintic, MD, retired in September. In his new role, Dr. Haffner will be the local physician executive responsible for working with the medical staff and hospital leadership to ensure that patients receive high-quality and efficient care.
“Since starting here, I have felt at home with this talented team,” Dr. Haffner said. “I look forward to the opportunity to help St. Anthony’s continue on its path of providing compassionate care to our community.”
