Two St. Petersburg-based companies made significant advances on the Fortune 500 for 2020.

Jabil, with $25.3 billion in 2019 revenue, is ranked No. 121 on the annual list of largest companies in the United States. Jabil moved up 19 spots this year on the 2020 list, which was released Monday morning.

Raymond James Financial, with $8 billion in 2019 revenue, jumped 11 spots, landing at No. 396 on the list.

Both companies are among the largest employers in the area, with jobs that pay well above the average median income.

Tech Data, an IT distributor in Clearwater, ranks No. 90 on this year’s Fortune 500, down 2 places from last year. Mosaic, a chemical company that relocated its headquarters to Tampa last year, is No. 356, down 31 places. Bloomin’ Brands, the Tampa restaurant company whose brands include Outback Steakhouse, is No. 628 on the broader Fortune 1,000, down 13 places.

There are 39 Florida companies in the Fortune 1000, including 18 on the Fortune 500. Publix Super Markets, headquartered in Lakeland and with 2,000 St. Petersburg employees, leads the group in the No. 87 position. The list is described by Fortune as the “ultimate business scorecard” and represents two-thirds of the U.S. economy, with $14.2 trillion in revenue. See the full list here.

St. Pete companies’ growth

Jabil is a manufacturing solutions provider and has added revenue by diversifying its product lines over the past few years, adding health care and packaging, among others. Jabil employs about 2,000 people locally. The average wage for its St. Petersburg workers was $96,000 in 2017, according to documents filed with the city when Jabil struck a deal to expand its corporate headquarters at Roosevelt Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North.

Financial services provider Raymond James has expanded from a regional brokerage in the southeast United State to a one with a national footprint and an alternative to Wall Street firms.  Raymond James, headquartered in the Carillon office park, employs 4,700 people locally. Among its global workforce, the company’s median worker was paid $94,864 in 2019, the most recent proxy said.

It appears our local large corporations bounced around, and I’m happy for Jabil. They possess a visionary CEO.
