Two nights with neo-soul group Moonchild
Heating up with every show, every month, the Live on Central series at the Floridian Social Club reaches full boil this weekend with two performances – one on Thursday, one on Friday – by the Los Angeles neo-soul group Moonchild.
Stevie Wonder and Jill Scott are among the major artists who’ve praised the trio’s harmonious, feel-good blend of acoustic and electric instrumentation on smooth, goes-down-easy rhythm ‘n’ blues with jazz overtones. Moonchild’s latest, Starfruit, has a 2023 Grammy nomination as Best Progressive R&B Album.
It’s somehow complicated to explain the simple sound made by Amber Navran (who also plays flute, clarinet and saxophone), Max Bryk (keyboards, saxophone, clarinet) and Andris Mattson (keyboards, trumpet, flugelhorn, drums, ukulele). Best to experience it:
St. Petersburg singer/songwriter Alex Harris, producer of the Live On Central series, will open the show both nights.
Tickets are available here for Thursday, and here for Friday.
