DR. MIKE BAUER FOR GULFPORT WARD 2 CITY COUNCIL

Dr. Mike Bauer, Gulfport resident and lifelong public servant, has announced he is seeking the Ward 2 seat on the Gulfport City Council.

“I have spent my life working to protect the environment and build a sustainable future. I am excited today to announce I am now running to serve our Gulfport community as we prepare for the many challenges and opportunities our future will bring. I’m looking forward to sharing my plans and goals for our community, focusing on the issues we face in the City of Gulfport.”

From working for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in the 1970s, through serving as an Environmental Law Attorney and Policy Analyst for the Yakama Indian Nation, to earning his Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning and spending over a decade as the Natural Resources Manager for the City of Naples, Florida, Mike has made impacts at all levels of government. He has planned and executed projects to improve local bodies of water, working with members of the community, various organizations, and governmental agencies. Mike has received awards and recognition at state and federal levels for his exemplary work, including being appointed to the State of Florida Environmental Regulation Commission by the Governor in 2011. Since retiring to the Tampa Bay area in 2016, Mike has continued to work with his local community as a founding member of the Gulfport Sustainability Committee. Mike was also appointed by Pinellas County to its Parks and Recreation Board.

“As an elected member of the Gulfport City Council, my priorities will reflect the most urgent needs of our community. Preserving Gulfport’s unique sense of place; ensuring all members of our community can participate in the democratic process and see their voices reflected in the work of their local government; preparing for the real and immediate concerns climate change will bring to our coastal community; and taking necessary action now to plan for this immediate future are my top priorities.”
