Gulfport, FL – One month after the return of a safe and creatively redesigned First Friday Art Walk in downtown Gulfport, the business and creative communities of this bayside town again welcome arts lovers from across the region on Friday for November’s installment of this signature event. Thirteen artists, from emerging painters to professional jewelers and fiber artists, will show and sell their work in a socially distanced, outdoor set-up alongside the shops, galleries, and restaurants of scenic Beach Boulevard from 5-9pm.

The Gulfport Merchants Chamber (GMC) hosts the event and is eager to build on the success of last month’s successful return of First Friday Art Walk, says GMC President Barbara Banno.

“Last month’s Art Walk brought a sense of hope and healing to our community, as well as patrons to our restaurants and shops, and we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors back on Friday and throughout the season at our winter events. We’re encouraging everyone to start their holiday shopping early and to start it in Gulfport,” says Banno.

Other GMC hosted events in the coming weeks include Third Saturday IndieFaire on Saturday, November 21st and Small Business Saturday’s Shop Small Holiday Market on Saturday, November 28, the latter of which the GMC is co-hosting with LocalShops1 and SIK Promotions.

As with all events hosted by the Gulfport Merchants Chamber, all county and state safety regulations are met and exceeded under Gulfport STRONG, a public safety initiative launched by the GMC and the City of Gulfport prior to the resumption of public events last month.

Brenda McMahon heads the Arts Committee of the GMC and owns Brenda McMahon Gallery, which will play host to Creative Pinellas Emerging artist grant winner Anna Ayres at Friday’s Art Walk. Ayres recently completed a mural outside of the Gallery and the adjoining Custom House Décor, another local favorite shop for local art and eclectic home décor.

“This week’s First Friday Art Walk is the second event since Gulfport unveiled its redesign,” says McMahon, who also founded local fine arts collective ArtJones. “We are proud to celebrate young and emerging artists whose raw talent is rivaled by their fresh energy on the streets. We’re equally proud to host a talent of Anna’s caliber and look forward to showing off the inspirational mural she’s just completed outside of the Gallery.”

Among the thirteen participating artists are three from local fine arts collective ArtJones, including the aforementioned Ayres, jeweler Doug D’Souza and fiber artist Elizabeth Neily. ArtJones holds its annual studio tour, a wintertime favorite for art lovers across Gulfport and the region, on December 5-6.
