Roberto Hernandez, an original Devil Ray and the franchise’s all time saves leader was in the Homeless Empowerment Program’s kitchen today serving lunch to our residents and staff. He was joined by his grandson, Manny, a sophomore outfielder at St. Pete Catholic. Roberto Hernandez saved 101 games in his three seasons from 1998 to 2000 while the team was winning a total of only 201 games. His career save percentage with the D-Rays is 82.7 — waaay above the current league average and the same pct. of veterans exiting HEP programs who do not return to homelessness. Also waaay above average.
