Hollywood Producer/Director/Writer Stan Zimmerman coming to Tampa to celebrate Powerstories Theatre’s 25th Anniversary and production of “Right Before I Go”
On Friday, September 20, and Saturday, September 21, Powerstories Theatre will host “A Celebration of the Power of the Arts,” featuring the moving play Right Before I Go. Hollywood writer, producer, director, and the playwright Stan Zimmerman, known for his work on Gilmore Girls, The Golden Girls, and Roseanne, will narrate the play on both nights.
The staged reading will feature a talented ensemble of local actors and celebrities, including chief meteorologist Dennis Philips, television anchor Wendy Ryan, Tampa Bay Lightning assistant coach Rob Zettler, former Miss Florida USA and Miss World USA journalist Chloe Cabera, publisher of 83 Degrees Diane Egner, President and CEO of The Crisis Center Clara Reynolds, military veteran and motivational speaker Donald Dowridge, Jr., and others, all uniting for this vital cause.
Right Before I Go, written by Zimmerman, brings to life the final words of individuals who died by suicide, including messages from celebrities, LGBTQIA individuals, veterans, and bullied youth. Directed by Karla Harley, Producing Artistic Director for Stageworks, the play also highlights stories of survival, resilience, and hope, aiming to inspire conversations and provide comfort to those struggling.
The event starts on Friday, September 20, with an art exhibition showcasing works from Powerstories Art Wall and Project Return artists. Guests can indulge in gourmet hors d’oeuvres while mingling and exploring the creativity on display. The excitement continues with a raffle and silent auction, offering exclusive prizes and supporting a great cause. Attendees will be inspired by the Founder’s Message and Season Reveal, providing insights into Powerstories Theatre’s 25th anniversary season. The evening culminates in a live staged reading performance featuring local and national celebrities and actors, followed by an engaging talkback session with the Crisis Center and mental health experts. As the night winds down, guests will be treated to a musical encore by Life Amplified Spectacular Prom singers and delectable desserts and coffee, with an opportunity to meet the cast and celebrities.
Saturday, September 21, continues the celebration with another art exhibition featuring works from Powerstories Art Wall and Project Return artists. The Founder’s Message and Season Reveal will once again inspire attendees with a look into the vision for Powerstories Theatre’s 25th anniversary season. The highlight of the evening is the live performance of Right Before I Go, followed by an engaging talkback session with the Crisis Center and mental health experts. Guests will also have the chance to meet the cast and celebrities, making it a memorable and impactful evening.
