SARASOTA, Fla. (Oct. 30, 2025) – Expanded security measures are coming to Embracing Our Differences’ 2026 outdoor art exhibitions in Sarasota and St. Petersburg, made possible by a $75,000 matching challenge from attorney, businessman and philanthropist Hugh Culverhouse Jr.

The initiative will fund daily police coverage throughout the exhibition season in Sarasota and St. Petersburg. In previous years, police presence was limited to school field-trip days. The expanded coverage comes in response to occasional vandalism and disruptive behavior and will help ensure a safe, welcoming experience for all visitors, students and volunteers.

“Hugh Culverhouse continues to exemplify remarkable community leadership,” said Sarah Wertheimer, president and CEO of Embracing Our Differences. “His challenge gift not only strengthens the safety of our exhibitions but also invites others to join in sustaining a welcoming environment for all. His generosity ensures that the conversations sparked by public art will continue to bring people together in meaningful ways.”

The 2026 exhibitions will be on display Jan. 17 through April 19 at Bayfront Park in Sarasota and March 7 through April 12 at Poynter Park in St. Petersburg.

Culverhouse has a long history of supporting arts and education, often stepping in when public funding falls short. Earlier this year, he donated $107,643 to Embracing Our Differences after changes to Sarasota County’s cultural grant policies left the organization ineligible for public funding for the first time in 15 years.

Hugh Culverhouse Jr. is CEO of Palmer Ranch Holdings Ltd. in Sarasota. With a focus on environmental responsibility, he has overseen the 15,000-acre master-planned community for nearly three decades. Beyond his work in business and law, he has donated more than $73 million to community causes, higher education, mental health and social welfare initiatives.
