[Pinellas County, FL] — The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Florida honored Representative Jennifer Webb, on September 12, during the first installment of the All Together Now Virtual Speaker Series, A Celebration of NAMI Florida. Rep. Webb was awarded with the NAMI Florida Legislator of the Year Award for her advocacy work towards mental health in Pinellas County. “Representative Webb promotes school safety and early intervention by increasing the number of mental health professionals in schools,” stated NAMI Florida’s Board President, April Chambers, during the virtual event. “She is the Ranking Minority Member and on the subcommittee for PreK-12 Quality and committee member on Criminal Justice. Representative Webb’s family has been impacted by suicide and addiction. She is a champion in the legislature to help solve this continuing crisis.”
The All Together Now series hosts industry experts monthly to discuss hot topics in mental health. This virtual offering embraces the state alliance’s mission of providing education, advocacy and support groups for people with mental illness and their loved ones. The virtual series replaced the traditional in-person NAMI Florida conference and will continue through February 2021.
“Representative Webb has been a long time supporter of NAMI. Her personal and professional presence aligns with NAMI’s mission and vision,” says Denise Whitfield, Executive Director of NAMI Pinellas. “More than ever, individuals and families need mental health support, resources, and connection. Because of local leaders like Representative Webb, using their platforms help us change the way our community addresses mental health.”
