At a time when visual artists are, too often, content to be merely decorative, Raisa Nosova, a muralist and fine artist who has created murals in Milan, Italy, Manhattan, Jersey City and Brooklyn to name a few, and shown her work with Theodore Art Gallery & WSE Gallery in New York and Interior Spaces in Paris, wears that motivation proudly. Nothing about her pieces feels accidental and her work is a very specific response to actual human experiences including her own experience of becoming a mother. As Tris McCall puts it for Jersey City Times, Nosova “…refuses to hide from any of the unsettling implications of her pieces: all the trauma, bodily harm, vulnerability, emotional peril, and life-giving fluidity of womanhood and motherhood”.
