Sierra Club Endorses Caprice Edmond for Pinellas County School Board District 7

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The Suncoast Sierra Club officially announces its endorsement of Caprice Edmond in the race to represent the Pinellas County School Board’s 7th District. 

“We are very proud to join a growing and broad coalition of those endorsing Caprice, who has proven herself an effective advocate for both children and the environment,” said James Scott, Chair of the Suncoast Sierra Club’s Executive Committee. “Simply put, Mrs. Edmond, as her students know her, shares our values and priorities. We know that she will be a leading voice for equity, achievement, and the environment on the School Board.”

Edmond holds a Masters of Elementary Education and Educational Leadership and currently teaches science and coaches the science team at a Pinellas County elementary school; she started the campus’ STEM Club and recycling program.  She has also served as a Guardian Ad Litem and served in multiple leadership capacities within Florida’s largest union, the Florida Education Association.

Edmond shares Suncoast Sierra’s specific priorities for the District. These include increasing the prominence of environmental issues in the curriculum, District participation in the Florida DEP Green School Program, adoption of “Ready for 100%” renewable energy goals, and addressing under-reported air quality issues impacting Pinellas schools.

Pinellas County School District is the largest employer and has the largest facility footprint in the county, making it a major priority for energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. Sierra’s rigorous endorsement process includes a detailed questionnaire, an interview by a team of knowledgeable volunteers, and a multi-level approval process.  Candidates are selected based on their environmental knowledge and stances, subject matter expertise, and representation.  The Suncoast Sierra Club is proud to endorse the most qualified and promising candidate in this race.
