Adam Turkel is a St. Petersburg-based artist whose dynamic body of work spans fine art, graphic design, music, and education. Born in Baltimore in 1975, Adam came of age immersed in the gritty energy of the Baltimore and D.C. punk scenes. In his early twenties, he made waves both musically and visually—releasing records with his bands and exhibiting artwork at iconic venues like the Ottobar and the 9:30 Club. As frontman of the punk band The Beatings, Adam toured the East Coast extensively before settling in St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1999.
Adam has built a global reputation for his provocative and genre-defying creative output. His visual work—ranging from fine art to gig posters and album covers—has been collected and exhibited internationally, including recent shows in Los Angeles and New York (2024, 2025) as well as being featured in the Punk Retrospective at MOCA Westport.
Adam fronts The New Brutarians, a rock band whose releases span the U.S., Berlin, and Australia.
In addition to his visual art and music career, Adam is a committed art educator. In 2020, he was appointed by former Mayor Rick Kriseman to St. Petersburg’s Arts Advisory Committee and continues to champion the local arts community. He has taught in numerous Pinellas County schools and currently serves as an award-winning 3D Art Teacher at Lakewood High School
His studio and gallery space is located at Art at 400 Studios, at the corner of 400 23rd St. S. and 5th Ave S. in St. Petersburg. To arrange a private viewing of original work, please contact: 727-366-7147
