The importance of culture in the ethos of a tech startup

As tech startups scale, culture can erode while the CEO and co-founders focus on pulling the sleigh. Especially if they’re raised funding and need to hire quickly, without a focus on culture and the internal health of the organization, disparity and silos between teams can quickly develop and feelings start to get hurt. Team members stop operating from a place of growth and the organization is thrown into survival mode (the lower ego takes over and fight or flight responses).

Fractio (www.fractio.co), the equity-free on-demand fractional workforce platform HQ’d in Tampa, FL, embodies an ethos, so that through it everyone is on the same page to help tech startups to succeed without that liability of silos or feelings getting in the way of sustained growth, while coaching the startup as it reaches a point when it outgrows Fractio and brings on interim executives or full-time hires, while Fractio can work along side them to support them with mentorship, guidance, and project-based deliverables.

This story comes from experience from the founder, who is also Lean Six Sigma GB certified (to spot these issues in organizations).

It wasn’t easy spending six years rebuilding from the bottom up a $40M company whose assets were acquired. I was a new mom at that time.

That company was the 2000s tech giant blog, GigaOm. I helped rebuild it from 2015-2022 and ran the demand gen campaigns for over 200 tech clients.

I spent 10 years working for tech startups. Then I left and built Fractio (fractio.co), in Tampa, FL.

That experience taught me that tech startups needed 3 things they did not have:

-A fractional model for guidance & project work and equity-free accelerated growth
-An as-needed team “on tap” on a month-to-month subscription basis (no hyped, ego-driven CxO titles)
-Growth without the overhead to turn enough fixed startup costs into variable ones

Most importantly, they need a team that is in harmony to bring out the best in their mission and vision as they grow.
