The Junior League of St. Petersburg Continues to Serve the Community, Holding the 26th Annual Junior League of St. Petersburg Back-to-School Care Fair

ST. PETERSBURG (July 1, 2022) The Junior League of St. Petersburg will host its 26th Annual Back-to-School Care Fair on Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 8:00AM -12:00PM at Evara Health at Johnnie Ruth Clarke, 1344 22nd Street South, St. Petersburg FL 33712. The event is a single day of service event, which provides school physicals, medical screenings, backpacks filled with essential school supplies, an educational street fair and an agency fair to provide community resource information to members of the Pinellas County Community. All services and supplies are made available at no cost to participants.
In 1997, the Junior League of St. Petersburg saw an opportunity to help local children reach educational success by coordinating a free, Back-to-School Care Fair. Since then, the number of children served has annually and steadily increased into the thousands and so have the financial needs. The goal of Care Fair has always been to prepare students K-12 with the necessary resources to start the school year ready for success. Over the last two and a half decades, Care Fair has provided an estimated 7,500 medical exams, 27,600 backpacks with school supplies, distributed thousands of age-appropriate chapter books and dedicated countless volunteer hours to the children and families most in need of these resources.
The Junior League’s Annual Back-to-School Care Fair is a collaboration of local community organizations including Evara Health, the City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Schools, and many others. The event hosts an outdoor family-friendly street fair complete with educational exhibits and interactive entertainment. Inside the event, students accompanied by an adult can receive free medical, dental and vision exams, school physicals and brand-new backpacks filled with school supplies. Those who were not able to receive an in-person medical and dental exam at the event will receive a voucher to be seen at a later time. Parents can also find information on a variety of community resources at the agency fair, designed for nonprofits offering services to families.
The Junior League of St. Petersburg continues to grow its community impact efforts by expanding the health and nutrition component at Care Fair. Our Kids in the Kitchen program hosts a produce stand and gives out free, local produce at the event. In South St. Petersburg, according to the Juvenile Welfare Board, an estimated 1 in 5 children are considered food insecure (meaning they go to bed hungry or don’t have enough food over the weekend). The Junior League of St. Petersburg recognizes this need in the community and continues to implement educational programming in conjunction with overall initiatives.
