The StartupBus Rides Again! Rolling into Austin, Texas from All Over North America

Tampa, FL – StartupBus is back! This year marks the 11th competition of this five-day entrepreneurial competition on wheels and sees the buses heading to Austin, Texas for the final event. This year’s event starts July 27,, 2022.

So what is StartupBus? It’s been aptly described as a “boot camp for entrepreneurs.” Bus riders – called buspreneurs – step aboard the bus in their departure location of choice, introduce themselves and their genius ideas, then form into teams. The teams on each bus compete with each other, and then with other buses’ teams, to crown one team the winner. This year there are four buses in all:
Cincinnati, Ohio (Advancing Black Entrepreneurs)
Mexico City, Mexico (Latinxs in Tech)
Silicon Valley, California
Tampa Bay, Florida

The experience has shaped many developers, creatives, and marketers who’ve used the experience to grow their careers or start their own companies, from Instacart to Tampa Bay’s own Course Align and Sourcetoad. And the Florida bus’s recent successes have helped boost the visibility of Tampa Bay’s tech scene, which has helped to attract more technology workers to the area.

The people running the event at the bus level are called conductors. This year’s conductors are Evan Thacker, Joey DeVilla, and Mandy Minor. This year’s sponsors include CoreX Legal and Hillsborough County, Florida’s Economic Development Innovation Initiative (EDI2).

For the first time ever, StartupBus Florida has been setting up technology partnerships and coding open-source packages for participants to build their own web3 apps in 72 hours, versus the original one to four years! As another first, StartupBus Florida has set up its own Metaverse to recruit and interact with participants.
