USF St. Pete Students DEMAND Change and Have Fun Doing it
STUDENTS CALL ON THE FLORIDA STATE LEGISLATURE TO SAVE THE FLORIDA PANTHER: “Florida roads should be safe for all, including our most iconic species”
WHAT: University of South Florida Students gather at Poynter Park to celebrate getting 1000 petitions signed and delivered to local lawmakers advocating for the building of wildlife crossings in Florida to protect the endangered Florida Panther. This is in light of the decreasing numbers of the Florida Panther, a keystone species in the Everglades. The leading cause of death for these Panthers is collisions with vehicles. Nearly 10% of their population is lost to these accidents. Not only that, but these collisions cost millions to Florida tax payers. Students will have educational materials and ask for petition signatures.
This gathering is set to have a brief presentation from speakers and coordinating students highlighting the importance of this work. Then, there will be festivities including music, activities, face painting, and more.
