Intermezzo Coffee
If you haven’t visited the 1100 block of Central Avenue lately (aka Edge District), you’re missing a vibrant neighborhood that feels distinctly different than downtown. Sharing a historic building with the Baum Ave Market food hall, Intermezzo Coffee is that Brooklyn/Greenwich Village/Rome coffee shop/bar that you thought only exists in the cinema.
The bright interior has a long bank of cushioned benches with cafe tables and chairs, so that whether you’re solo, or having a meeting, there’s always a seat. The baristas offer so many coffee and tea drinks that you’ll often hear patrons asking, “What is that?” as a drink is served.
With a full bar, Intermezzo has mastered the daily transition from coffee shop to nightspot, proving that a place can do both well. They also don’t mind if you bring food over from the next door food hall where Karma Juice Bar and Eatery serves a well-rounded menu of sandwiches, soups and salads (try the Turkey Torta).
The energy at Intermezzo breeds productivity, with music that tends to change genre about every hour. As of February 2020, Intermezzo is in the process of expanding their outdoor space. Check their website for ongoing special events like Tuesday night jazz with Nate Najar, Old Fashioned Wednesdays, and their occasional oyster bar pop-ups.

What's special about Intermezzo Coffee?
"Intermezzo is a specialty coffee and cocktail bar. My inspiration draws from the many European and American cafés in the 1950’s and 1960’s which served as local meeting places for artists, writers, directors, and other creatives to gather over drinks. - Jarrett Sabatini, owner."
