Canine virus causes service shutdown

December 8, 2022 - Officials with Pinellas County Animal Services announced they are suspending dog adoptions and intakes due to the detection of Canine Pneumovirus. According to a release, the suspension began Thursday morning and will last until at least the end of the month. Animal services staff are isolation the shelter’s dog population and providing ongoing testing and supportive care. The release states that the virus is typically not fatal, and no animals have died. Cat services are still available as Canine Pneumovirus does not transmit to other species.
