Castor names new Tampa Chief of Police

February 8, 2022 - Tampa Mayor Jane Castor has selected Mary O'Connor as the new Chief of Police. O'Connor worked at the Tampa Police Department for 22 years and retired as the assistant chief in 2016. She is currently a senior faculty member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's leadership training program to shape well-rounded officers who value diversity, social equity and trust. O'Connor will replace Chief Brian Dugan, who retired after 31 years with Tampa Police last September. The city council will still need to approve the mayor's selection.
