Clearwater levels beach barrier to help nesting sea turtles
August 21, 2026 - Clearwater crews leveled a steep sand escarpment on Sand Key Beach that wildlife officials said could prevent sea turtles from reaching suitable nesting areas. The work was coordinated with Pinellas County and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, with Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s conservation team on site and an active nest left undisturbed.
