County opens survey regarding e-bikes on trails

April 1, 2022 - Pinellas County officials seek public feedback on the increasing number of residents choosing electric bicycles (e-bikes) as their preferred mode of transportation on area multi-use trails. The county announced Friday that it is conducting a new survey to better understand the rising popularity of e-bikes and how they integrate with other trail users. E-bikes, defined as bicycles with operable pedals and an electric motor of fewer than 750 watts, are allowed anywhere traditional bikes are ridden, per Florida law. According to the county’s release, the pandemic contributed to the popularity of e-bikes, and global consumers will purchase an estimated 130 million e-bikes between 2020 and 2023. To take the survey, open from April 1-22, visit the website here.
