Cox sells Tampa-St. Pete radio stations

June 27, 2019 - Cox Enterprises has reached an agreement to sell its radio station portfolio to a new broadcasting company controlled by Apollo Global Management, a private equity firm. The deal includes six radio stations in Tampa-St. Pete: WPOI-FM, Hot 101.5; WXGL-FM, 107.3 The Eagle; WSUN-FM, 97X – Tampa Bay's New Alternative; WDUV-FM, 105.5 WDUV Lite Favorites; WWRM-FM, Magic 94.9; and WHPT-FM, 102.5 The Bone. Apollo is expected to divest WSUN-FM to comply with FCC ownership limits. Financial terms were not disclosed but Cox Enterprises said it would maintain a minority stake in the new company, which will keep the name "Cox Media Group" and will be headquartered in Atlanta.
