EDGE District wins state honors

July 31, 2020 - The Florida Secretary of State has recognized the EDGE District in St.Petersburg for outstanding achievements in five categories in 2020. The district, an accredited America Main Street and Florida Main Street, includes the area from 1st Avenue North to 1st Avenue South and from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street to 16th Street. The district received a 1st place honor award for a $249,000 public art project to create iconic gateway sculptures, as well as an honor award for the new construction of the St. Petersburg Police Department headquarters. Another honor award was for the World of Liquors sign restoration by Mark and Sherry Ferguson of Ferg's. The runner-up merit award for an outstanding business of the year was for Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More, owned by Sean and Dannette Mulligan and located in the EDGE District since 2017. The merit award for local Main Street supporter went to Debbie Reeser, a commercial realtor and member of the board of the EDGE Business District Association. The Florida Secretary of State annually recognizes Main Street communities that have excelled in carrying out revitalization and preservation efforts in historic commercial corridors. This year's ceremony was live streamed on July 30, as part of the Florida Main Street Annual Conference and a replay can be viewed on the EDGE District Facebook page.
