Federal judge dismisses case against Bill Edwards’ mortgage company
July 3, 2019 - A federal judge in Atlanta has granted a motion by St. Petersburg businessman Bill Edwards to dismiss a lawsuit alleging fraud at Mortgage Investors Corp. The complaint initially was filed in 2006 by the federal government against several mortgage lenders, including Mortgage Investors, which no longer is an actively operating business. The complaint alleged the companies overcharged veterans unallowable fees. The judge cited recent developments in the False Claims Act, the law under which the complaint was filed, in granting Edwards' motion for a summary judgment.
