Florida Supreme Court approves vote on minimum wage

December 19, 2019 - Voters can decide on an initiative to raise Florida's minimum wage, according to a ruling today by the Florida Supreme Court. The proposal, set for the Nov. 3, 2020 ballot, would raise the minimum wage to $10 an hour, effective Sept. 30, 2021. It would go up by $1 every Sept. 30 until it reaches $15 an hour on Sept. 30, 2026, then be reviewed annually. The current minimum wage in the state is $8.46 an hour. The state high court did not consider the merits of the proposal and only reviewed whether it complied with state law requiring it address a single subject and have a clear and accurate ballot title and summary.
