Gators Cafe at John’s Pass will not reopen

October 16, 2020 - Gators Cafe, the legendary waterfront bar and restaurant at John's Pass, has closed its doors for good. "It is with a heavy heart, we deliver the news that Gator's Cafe will not be reopening," a Thursday Facebook post said. "For the last 30 years you have allowed Gator's to be a part of this wonderful community and we could not be more grateful for you all!" The restaurant, best known for its massive collection of Florida Gators memorabilia, had been closed since the Covid-19 pandemic began in March. Facebook messages posted since then had a hopeful tone and mentioned improvements being made to the restaurant with the goal of welcoming patrons back. As news spread on social media, many people posted photographs and memories of their visits to Gators. Others speculated that the property had been sold. Gators will be selling T-shirts, tumblers and other retail merchandise online for a limited time.
