
Health officials issue mosquito-borne illness advisory
August 28, 2025 - The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County has advised residents of an increase in mosquito-borne illnesses throughout the area. Several "sentinel chickens" have tested positive for the West Nile virus. DOH and county officials are coordinating surveillance and prevention efforts, and advise residents to dump standing water, use insect repellent and wear light-colored, long-sleeved clothing and closed shoes.
