New entrance sign coming to Sunken Gardens

March 12, 2022 - Sunken Gardens will soon boast a new entrance sign and foundation, following the structural failure of the current sign last year. St. Petersburg city administration recently approved a bid from Thomas Sign and Awning Company to construct and install new signage at a cost of $138,233. The current sign, installed in 2003 and located at the 4th Street Entrance to the historic attraction, required emergency action and a partial tear-down. The city noted that in 2003, an engineering report stated that an analysis of the steel support structure was not conducted. The steel support structure failed last year. Recent studies showed the remainder of the sign’s structural integrity is now in jeopardy. The city plans to install an identical sign with improved LED lighting.
