TIA grand opening

Tampa International Airport will show off its 69 new shops and restaurants in the renovated main terminal at a grand opening from 2pm-6 pm on Feb. 16. Admission is free and visitors can park free for under one hour in the short-term garage. More info here

Duke gives away trees

Duke Energy Florida is giving away 2,500 trees to its customers to honor Florida Arbor Day. Duke customers can request a free tree, in a one-gallon pot, online at arborday.org/dukeenergy starting Jan. 18 and continuing until all trees are distributed.

USF builds medical engineering program

University of South Florida’s Department of Medical Engineering is opening wet lab space this week to give students more hands-on experience. Funding for the newly created department comes from the state’s preeminance program, USF said.

Tampa insure-tech raises $10M

Bond-Pro, a Tampa company that provides surety and specialty insurance software products and services, raised $10 million in growth equity. Volition Capital led the round.

Forbes names area companies best for diversity

Five companies based in Tampa Bay made Forbes 2019 ‘Best Employers for Diversity.’ They are: Raymond James Financial, Bloomin’ Brands, Qurate (formerly HSN), Publix and BayCare. Seaworld, which owns Busch Gardens, also is on the list.

Airport sets record

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport set a new record in 2018, with 2,237,440 passengers, up 9 percent from 2017. The airport has 56 domestic and three international destinations, including service to Winnipeg launched by Canadian Flair Air on Dec. 21.

Tampa ICT group renovates HQ

BICSI, a professional association that supports the information and communications technology community, plans to remodel its Tampa headquarters. The new workspace will reflect changes happening in in ICT technology, a news release said

Tampa biomedical firm acquired

Medovex Corp. (OTC: MDVX) in Alpharetta, Ga. bought Tampa-based Regenerative Medicine Solutions, which manages and operates Lung Health Institute. The combined company is led by CEO Bill Horne, former founder and CEO of Laser Spine Institute in Tampa.

KnowBe4 gets top honors

Frost & Sullivan gave KnowBe4, a Clearwater cybersecurity training firm, its 2018 Global Company of the Year award. Spear phishing attacks dropped from 27 percent to 2.2 percent after the company's training.

Tampa Bay mayors gather for Tiger Bay’s State of the Bay

The mayors of the major Tampa Bay cities will gather Thursday afternoon with Suncoast Tiger Bay Club for the 2019 State of the Bay. Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn will gather at Feather Sound Country Club for Tiger Bay's luncheon Jan. 17.
