Patel-backed Tampa medtech gets FDA OK

May 6, 2019 - The U.S. Food & Drug Administration granted "Breakthrough Device Designation" to Concept Medical for MagicTouch, a drug-coated balloon catheter to open up the coronary arteries of the heart that have re-clogged following the placement of a stent. The device already is in use by patients worldwide, and the designation allows it be used in the United States, said Dr. Kiran Patel, chairman of the Tampa medtech company. Patel invested $60 million in Concept Medical earlier this year.
