Pinellas County will be home of new 2nd District Court of Appeal building

April 26, 2021 - A new courthouse for Florida’s 2nd District Court of Appeal will be built in Pinellas County instead of Polk County after state lawmakers last week nixed a proposal for a facility in Lakeland. In budget discussions, the Legislature allocated $50 million for the DCA facility, which would likely replace buildings in Lakeland and Tampa. The effort to put the courthouse in Pinellas was championed by House Speaker Chris Sprowls, R-Palm Harbor. The courthouse will be named in honor of the late Bernie McCabe, a longtime Pinellas County prosecutor and Florida state attorney who died in January.
