Pinellas fertilizer ban begins June 1
May 29, 2024 - Pinellas County’s rainy season fertilizer restrictions begin Saturday, June 1, and last through Sept. 30 to prevent toxic nutrients and runoff from reaching local waterbodies and causing harmful algae blooms. The ordinance prohibits stores from selling any fertilizers with nitrogen or phosphorous. Residents cannot use phosphorous year-round without a soil test confirming a critical need or any fertilizer within 10 feet of a slope leading to a seawall, wetland or waterway.
