Search is called off for missing St. Pete pilot

December 7, 2022 - The search for a pilot who is missing since crashing into the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend has been halted. The missing pilot, Christian Kath, 42, and his family flew from St. Petersburg to Venice on Saturday, but they never returned to St. Petersburg. The bodies of his wife, 43-year-old Misty Kath, and their 12-year-old daughter, Lily, were found. The possible parameters of the search area for Kath exceed over 2,000 square nautical miles, according to the Venice Police Department. "Boaters from Sarasota Bay south to Gasparilla are reminded to be aware of the possibility of sighting remains or small aircraft debris. Boaters who observe anything should immediately contact the Coast Guard," the police department wrote on social media.
