Southwest expands Tampa furloughs
December 4, 2020 - Southwest Airlines expects to furlough 139 employees at Tampa International Airport beginning in March. The airline outlined plans to furlough 70 ramp agents, 46 customer service agents, 13 operations agents and 10 provisioning agents in a Dec. 3 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. Last month, Southwest said it would furlough 32 technicians at TIA because of a significant drop in revenue during the Covid-19 pandemic. In its new WARN, Southwest said it has not made meaningful progress in negotiations with several unions representing workers. The furloughs are expected to be temporary but last more than six months, the airline said.
