St. Pete man indicted for biological weapon hoax

May 22, 2020 - A federal grand jury in Tampa indicted James Jamal Curry on one count of perpetrating a biological weapon hoax. Curry, who is 31-years-old and lives in St. Petersburg, was arrested twice in March after he claimed he had coronavirus and allegedly spit and coughed on St. Petersburg police officers. Curry subsequently tested negative for Covid-19, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida. If convicted, Curry faces up to five years in federal prison.
