State awards Eckerd search-and-rescue program $364,811
September 26, 2026 - Eckerd College Search and Rescue has received $364,811 in state funding for new equipment and dock improvements, including engine replacements, hull repairs and dock pilings. State Rep. Linda Chaney advocated for the appropriation, which Gov. Ron DeSantis approved as part of Florida’s 2026-27 budget; the student-run maritime rescue program has 64 volunteers and responds to more than 400 distress calls annually.
